Archaeological Textile Consultation and Analysis

I have recently started working as an independent textile archaeologist. I am happy discuss consultation, analysis and write-up work for textiles dating to between c. 450 and 1400 CE. My area of particular expertise is the early medieval period (450 – 1100 CE), so I am always more than happy to discuss textiles and embroidery dating to this era.

My methods incorporate the use of visual and microscopic analyses using a Leica S9D tri-ocular microscope with a GXCAM-U3-5 digital camera or a Dino-Lite Edge AM7915MZT digital microscope. I can also complete multidisciplinary comparative studies, including historical, art historical and experimental work, placing textiles and their decorative techniques within their respective cultures and societies.

I am able to quote for specialist fibre and dye identifications. For these services I work with colleagues who are specifically trained and have a high level of expertise in these techniques.

If you would like to contact me about these services, please do so via the contact form.
